Can’t Keep up? 4 Ways to Simplify Your Back To School Plan

It’s that time of year once again when we are all winding down from summer vacation & gearing up or already tackling the task of kids heading back to school.  Between clothes & supply shopping, checking deadlines & filling out forms (just to mention a few) it’s a hectic time!  If like many people you’re finding it hard to keep up, we’ve put together 4 ways to simplify your back to school plan.

While all these tasks seem equally important, what are we really trying to accomplish?  The bottom line is that we need our family to be healthy so they can learn all they can & not have to miss class because of illness.  We want them well rested and nourished so their brains can consume and retain the new information.  We want them to participate in healthy activities so that they may learn and feel the benefits of an active lifestyle.  No matter what grade your child is heading into, we realize this is a period in life where they will learn valuable lessons that will carry into their adult life.  With that said, lets look at 4 things that will help you accomplish all of the above & can be implemented by even the most busy of parents.

4 Ways to Simplify Your Back To School Plan

1. Emphasize The Importance Of Exercise

Cant Keep Up? 4 Ways To Simplify Your Back To School PlanPhysical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and stroke, which are the three leading causes of death. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity.  Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and emotional challenges — from running to catch a bus to studying for a difficult test.  Most advocates recommend at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise.  Between a gym class and recess, we hope they can get pretty close to this number….but obviously more than the standard 60 minutes will definitely not hurt.  If your child is interested in participating in a after school activity or sport that’s great, and if not, they can get that extra exercise in many other ways.  Better yet, be active WITH them!  You’ll feel better too!  Model the behavior you want them to do.  A recent survey showed that kids from 8 to18 spend an average of 7.5 hours a day using entertainment media including TV, computers, video games, cell phones and movies in a typical day….any kind of exercise is better than this!

2. Make Good Drinking Water Convenient & Easy

Our children need access to clean drinking water throughout the day to help maintain their health. When a child drinks plenty of water, Cant Keep Up? 4 Ways To Simplify Your Back To School Planthey are reaping several protective benefits.  Children’s bodies needs a constant supply of water to ensure that their body is able to carry out all of the functions that allow them to learn, grow and be physically active. When a child does not drink enough water, they may experience mild dehydration, which can cause them to feel tired and leave them without any energy.  Not a good combination when trying to learn & focus!  Water plays many roles in your child’s body, and getting rid of toxins that can lead to illness is one of the most important. When your child supplies his or her body with a steady stream of water, it will help flush out their organs so that toxins are not able to cause damage.  Further more, when your child supplies their body with water, the nutrients they consumes from their food are more likely to be efficiently transported to all of their internal organs.  Make it easy and send a refillable water bottle with them to school.  If plastic, make sure to get one that doesn’t contain (BPA’s)

3. Make It Easy & Convenient To Supercharge Nutrition

We can no longer debate the fact that it is practically impossible (or would require you to make it a full time job!) to get all the nutrients our bodies need in a day from the food we eat.  With life seeming to get more busy each day, it can be a challenge to try and provide all the foods we need nutrients from, and get them into a school lunch and snacks.  To make up for our shortcomings in this department we can find help in the world’s best children’s supplements.  With fun packaging and flavors kids like it’s a safe, smart & effective way to give your kids a leg up in the nutrition department.
